Im an EQ2 newb (only played Trial of the Isle). I just have a few questions and this community seems good so hopefully i wont get the ffxi flame answers im used to :)

I Dont always have alot of time to play so I tend to solo, ALOT.
I'm also really big into crafting.
I was just wondering if Paladins where good to solo, i like having big armor, shields, cool weapons, all that flashy pally goodness, and i like being able to heal myself and such.
So are pallly's good at soloing?
Remeber i played ffxi for a year and a half where the only soloable class was beastmaster.
And i recently cancelled my WoW acct cuz it was too easy, crafting was not in depth AT ALL, and i wasnt really into the whole cartoonish look and i just couldnt get into the lore and the RP side of it.
Anyone have any advice, (helpful or otherwise)?

Yes Pallies are great at soloing, sounds like just the right class for you. And guess what, they get a free horse at level 20 [:grin:]
Only downsides, they don't use bows or duel wield.
Don't be surprised if others jump on this thread to say that all classes can solo. It's true, they can. But you sound like a Pally man to me.

I think monks are the best solo fighters. (if ur good that is)
Lots of people has the perception that because a paladin has healing skills therefore is a better solo tank. In EQ2, able to heal does not mean that you can solo *much* better than other classes. To balance out healing skills, pally has less dps than other tank except maybe guardian. IMHO dps is more important in soloing especially on caster mobs. Example, as ranger I can solo 2 blue con very easily. Lost 5-20% hp. Kill both in less than 20 seconds. Usually killed the 1st one in 5-10 seconds. Basically have to kill them fast before they have any chance of using their specials or spells on you.
As a 42L SK I can take on 4 greens or up 3 bluse and have no problem taking 2 green or blue ^ mobs or 1 green or blue ^^ mob. Tho I do have life taps they are not any where close to the amount of damage I COULD take. So depending on what I am soloing I may or may not use my shield. It takes the same amout of time to kill with or with out my shield.
My DPS comes from my spells so really don't mattter weather u use a higher but slower DPS 2handed over a faster lower dps 1hander, other then the fact that having a shield will save you from taking damage.
And the other thing to remember is that all mobs are not the same. You maybe able to kill 2 blues of one type but take on 2 blues of another type will kick you arse. There are some out there that are wimps and you can solo as red's even but then agin I have been sent running by a gray also.
Know your mob before u pull it or have a 2nd game plane :)
