I think Ive heard the funniest/saddest thing in my entire FFXI career last night.

I was in a party in valkurm. We had a capable setup (pld, whm, 3 DDs, blm). Like most Valkurm parties this one had a PL as well. So we're killin stuff everything is going fine. But I notice our lvl 17 whm (with no sub) is meleeing and his MP hasnt dropped at all. But I figure maybe its because we have a PL and so the whm really didnt have a reason to cure as he PL was doing just fine.

Eventually the PL says they have to go afk for 15-20mins So I figure we have a pretty ok setup we should be able to kill things without our hands being held. So I go off and pull another mob. About 3 fights later (and one death) I notice the whm is STILL meleeing and his mp didnt drop ONCE the entire 3 fights (the blm was doin all the curing). So I ask the whm "Ummm why is the blm doing all the cuing while you havent cured once yet? You're a whm after all that IS your job. BLM blow stuff up, WHM make stuff better". He then says "I know thats my job, but I dont have Cure" Im like "Ummm you're a WHITE MAGE and you dont have Cure? You dont find that the least bit odd?" he says "Actually yeah I do think its weird but I figured if I just kept lvling Id learn it eventually" I then roflmao irl then I tell him "Even if that WERE the case, If by lvl 17 I hadnt learned a spell that was supposed to be vital to my entire job I woulda called a GM or something" then I continue to say "What about that cure scroll you should of had when you first started playing? What happened to that? Dont tell me you havent checked your inventory at all?" He says "Yeah I saw that but I thought it was just some kinda tutorial manual that would tell me about curing or something so I tossed it"

Well after all that and the PT disbanding later (the PL came back) I can say without a doubt that nothing in FFXI will ever top that in terms of laughs Id get out of this game. So after explaining how spell acquisition in this game works (and telling him anything else of importance he may have missed). I decided to be a nice guy and get him every whm spell scroll he missed from lvl 1 to 17 (you can call it payment for his ability to make me laugh so hard) and Ive taken him under my wing to guide him in the direction to becoming a better WHM someday.
