Took a cursory look at Petopia WoLK pet changes, and what simply makes no sense to me is that Cats Unique skill is prowel, and cats are confined to the DPS tree. Now why in the world would I want prowel in a strict DPS vien.
I suppose Prowel is OK if you want to sit around high traffic areas and gank people, but IMHO that is about all it is good for. Every cat I ever got that had prowel got respecked out of it.

The theory on Prowel and the opening plus you get on the first hit is a given. That is not the issue in question here. Prowel and its benifuts are known documentation. My issue with this skill is: I have yet in 2 years ever seen a hunter use this skill. Prowel in the DPS tree is a bit of a contradiction to what I have seen Hunters do IRGL (In Real Game Life). The fact that I play on a PvP server may have something to do with that.
Here is my take on this: After playing for hours every day for 2 weeks in AV/WSG/ and AB I never saw any hunter ever use prowel. In general play, I have only seen one hunter ever use prowel and it was a lvl 70 hunter ganking level 40ish players.
Further, it has been my experience and through observation to note that in dungeons commiting a pet to a target is best left to a quick charge with the pet left on PASSIVE, if that is not done the pet tends to attack anything that hits it causing a domino effect and subsequent wipe of the party. I learned this the hard way as an early hunter and ask hunters to set thier pets to passive when in dungeons with them. I have actually gone so far as to warn hunters who refused to make thier pet opassive and had to boot them from a party, which is something I dislike doing.
In prowel pet speed is reduced by 50% and in PVP this is basicly one more negative a hunter has to deal with. While a case can be made for trap setting, and retreat while the pet intercepts the target at the trap it is a finesse move and in most PVP circumstances will result in your pet recieving little damage while you get to visit the cemetary.
In Closing: It is understood that in WoW/PvP that the hunter is basicly in the middle of the poer food chain, superior only to cloth wearers at like levels and for the most part gear, while mele types have pretty much free will to kill what they wish. Haveing said that the concep is that players join guilds and basicly play in groups, which is one more part of the problems associated with BC. And that is that the game favors team play and penalizes solo play, to the extent that solo players are denied access to better equipment if they are not members of a "GOOD" guild, which BTW is a rareity. When it is all said and done WoW in all its manifestations is geared for elietists, is overly technical makeing a science out of building a toon. I have seen the high levelplayers in trade complaining about the welfare gear, and I can understand the resentment that accompanies such a change after busting your hump and seeing something nerfed, but the truth of all this is that Bliz is a business, and as such they are realizing that they have painted themselves into a corner. The game has become too scientific, which is what usually happens when you let engineers (people with engineering degrees) operate unsupervised. The game evolves into a game of insiderelietists, those who live in the game, those who understand the complexities, and moreover those with all the attributes that civilized society hates.
I am sure this diatribe will bring alot of negative input, which will be subsequently ignored by myself. I am sure that cloth wearers have thier own axe to grind, and mele types will will (not very politely) recommend that I move to a PVE server, which is not going to happen. In the final analysis the greatest overriding factor is perhaps ganking of solo players, the biggest hindrance to game progression, and a hindrance for which WoW seems to have less than zero sympathy, in fact, if anything WoW actually promotes it in the game structure. I plan to make another entry titled ABOUT THOSE GREYS if you have any interest.
Thanks for your time
In instances it seems silly to use prowl unless it somehow helps you to solo an instance. When questing, it can be useful.
I used to play hunter and in pvp, and I loved prowl (but I had the NE shadow meld ability too). It was great for eating/drinking while hidden and also for guarding flags, wait for opponent to start capping, then shock and awe. I see your point though. If I weren't a NE hunter, might not have had reason to use it in pvp.
